Bay State Brawlers Roller Derby is Central MA’s premiere nonprofit women’s roller derby league. A skater-operated Massachusetts nonprofit organization, 2017 is BSBRD’s 6th season playing competitive roller derby and its third as an internationally-ranked member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In that time the league is proud to have become the second most highly-ranked WFTDA league in Massachusetts.
Practicing at Roll On America in Leominster and hosting games at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg, BSBRD fields two travel teams, comprised of dedicated athletes from across the Commonwealth. The Punishers is Bay State’s internationally-ranked WFTDA Charter team, and the Brawlin’ Broads is its locally respected and competitive B Team.
With a mission to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all to develop and explore their strengths as skaters and core values of hard work, open communication and fun competition, the league’s training is physically challenging and rigorous, its dedication to the quality and safety of the sport top priority, and its commitment to community strong.
Bay State is committed to building and fostering a community free from violence and harassment, in which everyone feels welcome, safe, included, acknowledged and supported. At our annual meeting in 2017, with the help of professional human resources staff, we adopted this Harassment Policy and Grievance Procedure.
WFTDA is the international governing body of women’s flat track roller derby, with a mission to promote and foster the sport of women’s flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportsmanship, and goodwill among its 399+ member leagues (and growing!). WFTDA sets standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues.
